She’s Here!!!

So this post is a bit late…a month and a half late but all I have to say is ‘newborn’ and everyone should understand. 😉

Stay tuned for more photos! I can’t promise they’ll be high quality but when it’s her ‘firsts’ I just gotta snap them quick! She’ll be walking before I know it! Do you have any favorite shots or ‘must-take’ shots of your little ones?

Early Days

Do you ever look back on a time in your life and say ‘I wish I had more photos!’ I wish that regarding my pregnancy belly days. I have very few photos of just me featuring the bean in my belly. Here’s the best I can do to update you on my growing belly.

This photo is the first photo I have and it’s from when I was 3mo pregnant next to our newly planted tree.

Baby Bump 1

Here I am quite a bit later into the summer when we went to the drive-in. I live in the Midwest so that explains the vast fields surrounding the drive-in. (We saw Superman if you were curious and yes, it was super uncomfortable!)

IMG_0176

We went to Babies R Us for who knows what? Most likely we didn’t even get anything baby related but a set of Legos for ourselves. This was the first time I’d ever used the expecting moms parking which was completely unnecessary but the parking lot was pretty empty.

This is a shot from my last day of work. I was surprised with flowers from my husband as well as a going away party/baby shower from my office mates.

IMG_0429

This is when I was trying to fit in and look like a Friday’s employee. Not really, it just was really strange when I walked in and looked like the hostess.

IMG_0538

We went to the orchard the day I was due to walk around to help the process. It was not successful but I kept going on outings for the next two weeks! Everyone was nervous when they’d find out I was due two weeks ago.

Thankfully we did get maternity photos. I wanted them super casual out by our house. We got tons taken by Erin but these were my favorites. I highly recommend getting pictures of pets as well as your home during this shoot.

I have a pretty terrible memory so pictures and video help me keep track of the fun trips as well as the mundane in my life. Is there a time frame from your life you wish you had more photos?

Nail Polish Organization

Does your nail polish collection look a little like this? If so, I think it’s time for some nail polish organization.

polish-before

I do my nails as a zen-like meditation time to clear my mind for a bit. When I look at this mess and think about trying to find the perfect color it makes me cringe! I started the organization process by dumping the entire drawer on my bed and sifting through my favorite polishes I wanted to keep.

nail-polish-spill

I bought this clear nail polish tray to hold my polishes in place while in the drawer so they didn’t roll around.

Polish Tray

Unfortunately, the tray fit the drawer perfectly but not all polishes fit the tray perfectly. The L’oreal base of the polish was too large for the slot. I added the tray and two inexpensive containers to the drawer and love it!

Nail Polish Drawer

I put the essential grooming necessities up front so they’re easy to access. It has been 11 months since I organized my nail polish drawer. I wanted to see how functional it was before posting. I am extremely happy with the results. I could definitely do without buying so many new polishes, but other than that, I am super happy with my mani/pedi set up.

nail-polish-now

This form of nail polish organization worked well for me! Once I did that drawer I got a bit crazy and did the other drawer by using the same clear containers.

hair-accesories

Pretty self explanatory with this drawer. I simply separated items into like groups and divided into the containers. Have you done any fun girly product organization lately? I’d love to see!

I also have a nail polish inspiration board if you’re interested in beginner nail tutorials!

Yarn Bird Feeder

bird feeder

Since we’ve moved to our current home, I’ve noticed how established and serene our family’s yards are. I love all of the little squirrels and birds that are happily playing around their trees.

We do not own one tree (yet). It’s hard to attract birds with no trees so I have to lure them with tasty treats and luscious building materials for their homes. This was an inexpensive and simple craft that would be fun to do with little kids!

Necessary Tools & Materials: scissors, yarn (great way to use up old scraps!), suet bird feeder:

Anyone else have a lack of birds in their area?? It just doesn’t feel like spring around here when there aren’t any birds chirping!

Edit: I saw my strings in a few nests last year! I re-filled with fresh yarn for this spring’s birds

Happy Glam

geometric art

Although the circle is still my favorite shape, I’m getting really into triangles lately. Things that have especially sparked my interest are:

triangle collage

(Yes, that is a Deathly Hallows necklace in there…back to the post.) I’d recently bought a 5×5 wrapped canvas for my niece and decided that triangles would be the best thing EVER to put on it. I was right.

I started by painting a base coat followed by two coats of gold. I had this tape* waiting to be used for an awesome occasion such as this. I made triangles (with no rhyme or reason) on the canvas with the tape:

gold tape

Once I taped the canvas, I started choosing my colors. This is the hardest and longest portion of any painting I do. This step often paralyzes me from starting a painting because it’s so daunting. I did a lot of mixing to find the exact colors I was looking for and in the end I was quite shocked proud on how well the colors meshed.

paint

I painted several layers of each color to obtain the opacity I was looking for. Peeling the tape off before letting the final coats dry seemed to be a good idea (something I’ve learned by painting the rooms of our house.)

firstpaint

Notice the areas that the paint seeped under the tape? In order to sharpen the lines, I re-taped the outsides with scotch tape and re-painted the gold stripes. If I’d used a stickier tape, this would not have been an issue.

nottapepaint

The final product turned out better than I’d hoped! I named the piece ‘Happy Glam’ for my 2 year old niece who is a very happy little girl who loves glamorous-sparkly-shiny type things.

What projects have you been up to lately? Any shapes been especially inspiring to you? Circles are still in, right?

*I would not recommend this type of tape for this project because it did not adhere to the painted canvas well, which resulted in me having to repaint the gold lines.

Edit: I have since made a second triangle painting! Check HERE for how I improved from this painting.
