Anyone else have a huge tackle box of beads from when they were younger? I used to make necklaces and bracelets for my family, friends, teachers and just about anyone who would take one. I’ve been pinning to my DIY Jewelry board for over a year now and have realized I have a lot of the materials to make these beautiful bracelets that I swoon over.
Today I decided to try my hand at a Beaded Tassel Bracelet that can double as mini Japa Mala beads (for me during times of need, such as, lunch time with a toddler).
- Stretchy String
- Embroidery Thread
- Embroidery Needle
- Beads
- Scissors
- Phone (or cardboard as template for tassel)
- Thread beads on stretchy string and tie knot to form a bracelet. Set aside.
- Wrap embroidery thread around template. I made two sizes. The thicker tassel was wrapped twice as many times as the smaller tassel.
- Thread embroidery needle.
- Slide needle between wrapped thread and the template.
- Wrap bundle of thread 2-3 times.
- Slide bundle of thread off template.
- Cut bundle of thread on the far side.
- Place bundle of thread around either side of the beaded bracelet.
- Using the threaded embroidery needle, wrap close to the top of the tassel 3-5 times.
- Thread the remainder of the thread down through the wrapped section you just finished. Pull tight.
- Snip the ends to make the tassel your preferred length.
I think this bracelet looks great as a stand alone piece or stacked with a bunch of other bracelets. The options are endless in the way of bead type and color of embroidery thread for the tassel. I wore my bracelet today and it helped keep Soph busy at the grocery as well as kept me sane after lunch time!
